Our mission is to keep romance novels circulating, affordable, and in the hands of readers who’ll love them next.

2. Do you sell books?
Yes! Members can sell their books at whatever price they choose, and buyers are free to make offers directly to sellers.

All sales go through our secure checkout system. We collect credit card fees, remit any applicable state taxes for sellers, and sell shipping labels at discounted USPS and UPS rates—all handled automatically through our platform.

We charge 6% + $0.30 per sale, most of which covers payment processing and transaction costs.

3. How does the book exchange work?
You list your available books, browse others’ listings, and make trade or purchase requests. Once both parties agree, checkout is completed on the site and discounted shipping labels are generated automatically for each member.

It’s fast, secure, and ensures both sides have proper tracking and proof of shipment.

4. What is the fee for trading on Sloppy Seconds Books?
We charge $1.25 per book traded, plus shipping.
That covers all processing, taxes, and transaction costs—so you can just trade and enjoy your next great read.

Account and Membership

5. How do I create an account?
Click “Sign Up” on our homepage, fill in your details, and you’re ready to list, trade, or sell.

6. Is there a membership fee?
No. Creating an account is completely free. You only pay the $1.25 trade fee or the 6% + $0.30 sale fee when completing a transaction, plus shipping.

Premium membership options may be added in the future for extra perks, but the base platform will always be open to everyone.

7. Can I deactivate my account?
Yes. You can deactivate your account anytime in Account Settings → Deactivate Account.

8. How can I change my email or mailing address?
Log in, open your Account Settings, and update your information. Changes are saved instantly.

9. Billing Information
Transactions are processed securely through our parent company, Vanguard Fiction Exchange, LLC. Charges will appear on your statement under that name.

Trading Books

10. How do I list a book for trade or sale?
Go to My Books → Add a Book, and search by title or author. If the book already exists in our database, click Add to My Shelf to list it instantly.

If it’s not found, upload it manually with book details and a clear image of the cover.

11. How do I request a trade?
Click Request Trade on any listing you’re interested in. The other member will receive your request and can accept or decline. Once accepted, checkout and shipping are handled automatically.

12. What if my trade request is declined?
No worries! Declined requests incur no fees. You can send another offer, contact the member, or keep browsing for your next find.

13. How is shipping handled?
All shipping is done through SloppySecondsBooks.com using our discounted USPS or UPS rates. Each participant pays for their own shipping label during checkout, which can be printed directly from your dashboard.

14. How can I ensure my books arrive safely?
Use sturdy packaging such as bubble mailers or small boxes. We recommend USPS Media Mail for the best value and always include tracking.

15. Can I hand-write the address to send a book?
Yes, but printed labels are safer and more reliable for scanning and delivery.
